Future-proof your doors with safe, smart-lock retrofit solutions

The only constant is change is a truism that very much applies to the access security market. The world was a very different place twenty years ago, and student housing, high-rise, and multi-occupancy buildings that were cutting edge at the time will inevitably now be looking long in the tooth.

The reasons for wanting to upgrade to a modern, cutting-edge smart access system are strong. Instead of a basic lock and key, today’s technology provides residents with a far superior access experience, enabling them to choose from a variety of smart, secure solutions, such as RFID card, PIN code access or even digital key smartphone access. These systems have also revolutionised management for building operators, providing them with centralised oversight and enabling them to issue or revoke access at the touch of a button.

However, it’s now possible to bring an older residence up to date, without having to spend a fortune replacing all doors and frames. With NSP Security, you can retrofit all your doors efficiently, cost-effectively, and most of all, safely.

Reduce your risk

Primarily, the concern when making changes to doors is safety. Making any modification to a door will inevitably compromise its fire rating and invalidate its certification. As such, any work carried out must be done by certified professionals, using locksets that meet or exceed current standards, and from a company that understands exactly what needs to be done to ensure that the integrity of the door is not reduced.

While this means more work for the operator and smart access provider, there’s no doubting the benefits — better real-world fire protection, providing greater assurance for residents, operators and insurers.

Our holistic approach

When retrofitting, it’s recommended that you work with a supplier that takes a holistic approach to the process. First, our locksets are built to meet and exceed the FD30 or FD60 standards.

When it comes to your upgrade, we would work with you to choose a lockset that best suited your needs and budget, and then create a bespoke solution, planning out a process that minimises site disruption.

For the lockset replacement process, we would typically replace the entire area surrounding the older lockset using a CNC routed design for a gap fill process that is aesthetic, durable and functional.

Once complete, we then work with the operator and their fire inspection team to ensure that the door meets FIRAS or LPS standards

Ensuring peace of mind

Bringing older properties, whether in the PBSA, BTR, or Co-Living sectors, will bring a huge number of benefits regarding user experience and ease of maintenance. But any change carries risk, so it pays to work with a supplier that understands the issues in full and can ensure that no costly mistakes are made.
