In 2024, almost nine per cent of Leeds’s 800,000 residents are students, a number that’s expected to continue to rise. No surprise then that demand for new student accommodation is high, and, as digital natives, young people have high expectations for technology such as digital smart access.

The project
In September 2024, contractors McAleer & Rushe completed Tribeka, an impressive 19-storey tower block for students located in Woodhouse, Leeds, in the heart of the city centre. The location is ideal for students of the city’s many universities. The University of Leeds campus is a five-minute walk away and Leeds Beckett University a mere two minutes away. The cutting-edge building has a façade designed using pre-cast reconstituted stone and incorporates PV roof panels as part of a renewable energy strategy.

“At the start of the academic year, we had a lot of students who needed to settle in quickly,” said Toby Green, Accommodation Manager for CRM Students. “NSP Security made things much easier for us by having everything set up and ready to go and it’s simple and easy to use too.”

The apartments
Operated by CRM Students, Tribeka offers both cluster and 514 self-contained units. Students can choose between a room with shared communal kitchens and living areas or a space to themselves. The on-site amenities include a gym, laundry games room, dedicated study spaces, a coffee lounge and a sky lounge with a rooftop terrace offering fantastic views across the city.

Smart access for smart students
As expected for a modern building, Wi-Fi is available for all residents, and of course, smart door access is also present — all provided by NSP Security.

NSP Security was chosen for its smart access expertise and comprehensive on-site and remote support. Its SMF 614 lockset, offering high-quality, durable construction for proven reliability, cover the building entrance, internal doors and communal areas, including gates and lifts.

The start of a new academic year is a hectic time for students and staff, but NSP Security smoothed the process by ensuring that everything required to issue access keys to students was in place.

Easy-to-use platform

The easy-to-setup back-end software platform ensures CRM Students can monitor the system to ensure access remains seamless throughout the building. The system is fully virtual key-ready, so smartphones could be used for access should the operator wish to implement the feature.

At Tribeka, CRM Students has a cutting-edge site that sets the standard for student accommodation, and by working with NSP Security, it has a smart access system to match.
