Case Study:
Bloom Nine Elms, London
Sector: Student Accommodation
Products used: SMF EPIC
Completion date: January 2024
In the Nine Elms district on London’s South Bank, close to the recently opened Nine Elms Underground station, the impressive Bloom Nine Elms East and West towers fill the landscape.
In keeping with the recent regeneration of the Battersea area, these were built for global developer Greystar by Telford Homes on the site of a former Royal Mail depot and contain over a thousand luxury rental flats.
Along with communal work facilities, Bloom Nine Elms boasts luxury amenities such as a sky lounge, a rooftop swimming pool, and a gym.
The ideal lockset
For the project, Greystar wanted a world-class smart access system and turned to NSP Security to deliver it. Looking for something that would suit the upmarket décor of the buildings, it settled on the SMF EPIC. With its reader and electronics discreetly integrated into the lockset and a wide range of colour and material options to choose from, the EPIC offered the high-design minimalist look that Greystar was looking for.
“The SMF EPIC Lockset proved to be a smart choice for us,” said Greystar’s general manager Chris Lavery. “It has a premium look and feel and works well and reliably, but it doesn’t cost an excessive amount, which is important when trying to control costs. “Working with NSP Security greatly simplified asset management across the scheme and reduced time for our concierge team.”
Dealing with challenges
Due to the scale of the project, the work was completed in phases, with the west side completed after the east. However, as anyone who has ever worked on ambitious, large-scale building projects knows, delays are sometimes unavoidable.
As such, after NSP Security had completed supplying and fitting the EPIC, additional finishing work was necessary elsewhere. When this was done, NSP Security returned to service all locksets to ensure everything was ready for residents.
“In a perfect world, we only need one round to ensure that everything is working as it should”, said one of NSP Security’s senior handover coordinators. “However, as sometimes happens, there were delays and as we’re committed to excellence in all our jobs, we returned to the site for a full service and inspection before opening to ensure everything met our standards.”
The result was a pair of superb, cutting-edge, luxury buildings, with a security system to match. “NSP Security was great to work with and we look forward to our future projects,” said Lavery.
